Well I'd certainly be lying if I said it weren't possible to do that yeah.
I could look at doing that over the next day or two if you would like. Are the current points free to be removed? As they likely would need to be for testing.

Coloured name tags is certainly a possibility, and relatively easy to implement too.
Could also possibly do something like add the names of the previous winners to the loading screen between maps. Is a nice unobtrusive way to give them exposure.

Well I'm rather busy at the moment developing an audience response system, an online text based rpg, and all my regular course work, but I could certainly whip up a map cycling script with relative ease...and I'll see what I can do about the points one...though no promises. (An outline of how you want the points to work would be useful)

That'd be correct.
Beating someone with the same points as you will yield 5 points, someone with more than you and you'll earn more, someone with less than that you'll earn less. minimum per person is 1 point if they have significantly less than you.

Alright due to the massive growth of the points previously it was clear the system needed to be changed.
The change I have made however is perhaps slightly unusual, although I believe it to be fair and encourage competition.

The basic concept is, for each racer you beat you are awarded points based on the points difference.
As such if you beat someone with significantly more points than you, you will earn a decent amount of points, however if you beat someone with significantly less points than you you will earn less, or even no points, and if you beat someone with similar points to yourself you will earn some points.

In more detail, for each player you earn a default of 5 points for beating them. However for each point more than you they have you will gain an extra 0.01 of a point, and for each point less than you they have you will gain 0.01 less of a point, until that reaches 0.

This means point growth will in general be constant, although it will be easier to catch up with leaders if you race well.
One of the main negative aspects however is that in each race the points system can appear to be malfunctioning. Consider this situation.

Player1 whom finished first has 1000 points
Player2 whom finished second has 50 points
Player3 whom finished 3rd has 1100 points.

Player1 will be awarded 6 points
Player2 will be awarded 16 points
Player3 will be awarded 0 points
(Ignoring points received for finishing the race and toptimes etc.)

So the person who comes 2nd earns more points from the race than he whom won it.

Naturally to some this may seem unfair, and perhaps all ye might not like this system.

Sweet, is the original one running all the normal scripts? and feeding points to the website etc...
And this isn't a wise long term solution, but I guess gives us a chance to work out which we prefer.

Ok well, obviously this collaboration with BOSS has now had impact of the server.
What are people opinions of the new race mode running?

I myself feel that it is a step away from what we at SiK have always been about.
The change is flashy and loud, and perhaps that is the right direction for the server, but I find it to take away from the racing and makes the server almost comical.

Also perhaps a bit of a biased view from myself but I feel we've lost our clan identity a little bit, I no longer feel that the server is ours.

Still depending on how others recieve it perhaps it will remain.

Well whilst the system does work more or less flawlessly its reception hasn't been as positive as I would of hoped.
As such I'm opting to remove the system and go back to the good old SiK style of full ghost mode.

haha well done on the record. And yes it is clear that your being more active which is great, alas I believe our timezones prevent us from regularly seeing each other online, but thats ok.
And dude I don't expect you to be constantly on the server aye, just so long as your having fun thats cool, and hopefully you do have fun on our server :)
