Title: Pc of death.
Post by: Grim_Reeper on May 24, 2015, 12:43:07 AM
G'day mateys.

I thought it was about time I got some photos of the new rig! Please keep in mind that this is not finished totally yet, I have ALOT of pc case to fill and not sure which way to go about it yet, I just needed something that ran that was better than that other potato I was using.

So this is a parts list first of all, it also includes what may be going into it in the future:

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Primo Ultimate Black Green Edition
http://www.phanteks.com/Enthoo-Primo-SE.html

Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Extreme9 LGA1150 Socket
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme9/

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_1490&products_id=27940

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW+ ACX 2.0+ 4GB (Will be buying another one of these to run in SLI)
https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=31472

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 850W
https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=27993

RAM: Kingston HyperX 1866MHz DDR3 Quad Channel Kit (4x4gb)
http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/HX318C9T2K4_16.pdf

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO Series 250gb M.2
https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=31355
(This will likely be replaced with Samsung SM951 NGFF SSD, so as to be able to experience M.2 Ultra slot on motherboard)

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3TB (This is from old computer)
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_344&products_id=19692

Notes:
At the moment CPU is running stock fan, will be replaced with Fractal Design Kelvin S24 AIO or go custom and build own water cooling.
Case needs lighting will sort that out some way or another.

Please excuse my messy table.

Had quite alot of fun putting it together, learned alot about the newer sorts of tech (SSD's, fan hubs and the like)

Ye, better than the ZX81  :)

Btw, on the monitor I see a Idle temperature of 50 or 59 (not clear on the picture) I hope it's in fahrenheit and not Celsius, but it looks Celsius  ;D

Funny story about that Sex, I took this photo not 5 mins after I found that upon first boot someone from intel or whoever put the wires in the holders around the fan, actually put them in there so tight that the fan got caught on the wires and was not able to move. I noticed this when the CPU temp in the bios reached 90 degrees centigrade, I looked in the case nearly fainted, shut it off then undid the wiring so the fan could function lol, it sits at a comfortable 35-38c now.

Btw I had a ASRock P67 Pro :P

Is your CPU overclocked?
And you don't have SLI yet, so until you do I will still beat you in benchmarking :P

Why you guys don't do a Geekbench test?
It fun for us to see some good sore's
Easy to install and to remove afterwards.

Download it here:

Hehe no it's not overclocked and probably will stay that way for a while, I wasn't expecting to beat you in benchmark scores I thought it might be interesting to see the difference :>

I will do Geekbench thursday night.

Just noticed in the photos there is a missing tab at the end of my gfx card (gfx card was .5mm too long for case bahaha, I actually have that piece installed in the pc, I took to it with a die grinder and cut out a section of it also made it long enough so if I was ever to install a second gfx card it too would fit. Will be able to see work in next pics.

Also have installed Fractal Design Kelvin S24, had some drama's installing, the ultra huge fittings for the hose on the pump/block wouldn't fit straight due to the RAM being in the way, so I side mounted it and plan to cover the sideways logo'd fractal design pump in something that will not cause it to heat.

Pics to come soon.

Just of curiosity, isn't it pointless installing the Fractal Design Kelvin S24 if you don't overclock?

Thanks for your question Sex,

All I really feel at the moment is not worth the hassle to overclock yet as nothing I do on this computer really pushes it (GTA V runs at 8-10% cpu usage). The watercooling will be there when i'm ready to push it up a bit higher i.e when higher CPU/GPU intensive games come out. For the moment it's mostly for the summers here, which have been really frigging nasty lately lol.

I built this rig to be futureproof for a while and wasn't willing to go with LGA2011-3 because of the price and problems associated, so the overclocking comes later :)

Back again finally ran a benchmark in NovaBench (because freeware)

Here is results:

BTW absoloutely annoyed, whenever I seem to buy hardware when waiting for the next stuff to come out I always buy it then the stuff gets released a few weeks later!

Much want:

So may sell current vid card to fund that one :D

Nice specs, and I was waiting for the 980 Ti to be released :)

I will be buying either 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Superclocked ACX 2.0+
https://www.evga.com/products/Specs/GPU.aspx?pn=db8f805f-ea5e-44c1-9654-f0c115f9028e

Or two of these,
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 980 Ti AMP! Extreme

(http://Image Does Not Register (Due To Garbigity))

Giu lol, if you do any little bit of research you will see that card is not worth it, high temps, massively high power requirements, DUAL GPU, I want a single GPU card, liquid cooled (no thanks, requires extra room for the radiator), AMD's terrible drivers that do not work properly and they take forever to release them (look at witcher 3 right now with that card, it's a fucking joke lol http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Performance_Analysis/The_Witcher_3/3.html).

Oh yeah here is my results Grim.
And this tester only does single GPU tests, so I will lose on that one :P

The CPU score is a bit strange. Demon has a higher score but a slower CPU.
Also remarkably is the GPU score. Basically 1 gpu vs to gpu's.

You almost ask yourself the question... "whats better, 1 new gpu, or 2 gpu's from 10 months ago"

Or, 1 expensive gpu vs 2 cheaper gpu's.

No my CPU BASE speeds are slower, but I have it overclocked to 4.5 ghz :D

And it only calculates with 1 of my 780 Ti's, hence the low score.

Ye, freeware, wasn't too strenuous anyways.

Dafuq how you score higher than me, i wonder if it's because of windows 8.1 or o/c cpu lol

But gg's.
